OCTOBER 2007 trm rises to the occasion The American Institute of Bakers (AIB) is a strict bunch – and rightfully so! - therefore, accreditation is not awarded lightly. trm Packaging has recently undergone the stringent observation and inspection upon which the AIB insist before declaring a company fit to receive the relevant certification. Following a high scoring pre-audit in December 2006, trm were able to assess the measures required by the AIB in order to pass the standard expected. Seven months of intensive action ensued, which involved both physical and cultural changes within the company to the way process hygiene was considered. Basically consisting of an initial review of all documentation relating to process hygiene and the systems used, the audit took place in July this year. It is vital that the potential for product contamination is eliminated and the AIB has to ensure that the correct procedures are carried out. An intensive and extremely detailed inspection of all areas of the manufacturing site followed the audit until the final decision was reached. Hygiene standards are expected to be of a very high standard in order to pass this inspection, however trm passed with flying colours and were designated an “Excellent” based on a really good score of 835 points out of a possible 1000. Nick Davies, Quality & Hygiene Manager of trm, who attended the audit along with Jenny Morrison who is the company’s Health & Safety Manager, comments “The site will now be audited every 6 months to ensure the standard is maintained. This is in addition to the monthly site-wide hygiene inspections that we, as a management team, perform in order to monitor those standards.” He was, naturally, very satisfied indeed with the findings of AIB auditor, Jeff Wilson.
