June 2006 new appointment builds on trm’s success As a fond farewell is bid to Doug Sparkes, who has driven substantial sales growth as trm Packaging’s Sales and Marketing Director since the company’s inception, his successor, Mike Giles is welcomed. trm’s proven success in the corrugated packaging industry has been achieved through their unparalleled creativity and constant attention to detail throughout the supply chain. They are the people who understand their clients’ products, packing lines and distribution systems and these strengths will naturally continue once Mike officially takes over the reins. Born and bred in Yorkshire, but already having crossed the divide to live in Lancashire, Mike has a hefty 25 years’ experience in the industry. His knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm will add to the company’s solid presence and inspiring lead in a very competitive field. trm operate in a market which demands a quick response to differing customer needs. Most recently the company has been at the forefront of developing shelf ready packaging and more than one in ten packs they produce is now retail ready. Mike’s presence will ensure this development continues through trm’s supply chain expertise coupled with clever box design combined with in-depth knowledge of the customers’ market. Straight after leaving Bradford University, Mike entered the paper industry, beginning on an internal sales desk and working through various sales positions. As he progressed, he successfully increased sales and profitability in all his roles, latterly as a UK Sales and Marketing Director. He is second to none in his regard for his predecessor. Doug has been the driving force behind the company’s development as customer-driven, market-driving solutions finders. He has led the technical design team of supply chain specialists with one main principle in mind – to ensure that trm contributes significantly to each customer’s bottom line. Mike is confident he can continue these company traditions. “We have established an extremely creative base for the business and operate in a very entrepreneurial way,” he says. “ Our brand will continue to embody creativity and innovation, and to promote the success of our clients’ businesses.” Mike and his Danish wife, Dorte, have 2 boys, who keep them on their toes, of course, but when he gets the chance Mike enjoys following the Stock Market.
