October 2009 EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK raising funds and awareness for the British Heart Foundation In March 2010 Colin Jennings, one of TRM’s Warehouse FLT drivers, will bravely embark on an exhausting trek to Everest base camp to raise funds for research, treatments, care and support for heart disease sufferers. Statistics show that heart disease kills more people in the UK than any other serious disease. Within the past six years Colin’s father and a number of work colleagues at TRM have been affected by serious heart problems and Colin hopes and believes that by doing this trek he can increase awareness of the devastation heart disease brings to sufferers and families alike, and he hopes to encourage other similar fund raising activities along the way. This challenging journey will take this group of intrepid hikers from Lukla in the Himalayas on a daily 8-9 hour trek through the mountains for 12 days. They’ll be sleeping in tea huts and tents and having to cope in temperatures below 15o C before reaching Everest Base Camp at 5,364m (17,700ft) above sea level. Certainly not a holiday, Colin is keen to point out that he has paid all his own expenses and any money he receives goes directly to the British Heart Foundation.
