August 2008 You're Hired! Following in Sir Alan’s apprentice-hiring footsteps, TRM Packaging Ltd in Burscough, Lancashire has just appointed a young apprentice to the company. But he didn’t have to go through quite the same gruelling process to get there! Sixteen year-old Jonathan Comber spent two weeks with TRM for his obligatory work experience during Year 10 earlier this year. He liked it so much, he returned during the summer holidays! The company obviously liked Jonathan’s enthusiasm, attitude and willingness to learn, too; so much so that they have now taken him on as an apprentice. Jonathan is “allowed out” from time to time to continue his studies. He is currently undertaking a BTech Business National Diploma, which is equivalent to ‘A’ levels, at the local college which will take him two years to complete. Working alongside the creative team in particular, Jonathan is gleaning all kinds of important experience and has already learnt about many aspects of the entire packaging processes, thanks to TRM. In the future, Jonathan is hoping to work with CAD in some form or another and he is really grateful to TRM for kickstarting his employment life with this exciting apprenticeship.
