EFIA LogoWe are delighted to announce that we have received five nominations for The European Flexographic Industry Association (EFIA) 2016 Awards, in the two categories of Corrugated Post Print.

TRM Print Development Manager James Jolley believes that this level of recognition is due to the high quality output produced by TRM’s Team on their Göpfert printer.

He comments: “Over a number of years we have been constantly learning and improving our technical knowledge, processes and capabilities in post print. However, the installation of the Göpfert has enabled us to accelerate this considerably, with the result that we’re now able to really push the boundaries of HQPP flexo.”

TRM has nominations for print work for clients including Whyte and McKay’s Jura Sweet and Smokey, Wychwood’s Beers of Character and Weetabix Breakfast Biscuits. The nominations are an excellent split across both categories in line/screen and process.

James adds: “Narrowing down TRM’s best offerings in HQPP for the EFIAs took some real deliberation as we had a such wide range of excellent print samples from which to choose.”

TRM Chief Executive Trevor Maund said: “I’m delighted that the expertise of our people has brought out the best from our technology investments. As a result it has helped TRM gain a strong reputation and market leading position as a producer of high quality printed boxes.”

TRM took home double gold last year with Best In Class and Best in Show. The 2016 EFIA Awards are being held in Birmingham on 17 March.

TRM Packaging, the UK’s leading independent specialist in corrugated packaging, has invested in a new multi-point folder and gluer from Tanabe JD Boxer. The next generation equipment provides TRM customers with even higher levels of sophistication in terms of packaging design and speed to market.

Mike Giles, Sales & Marketing Director for TRM said: “With an increase in demand for variable sizes, bespoke pack configurations and sophisticated designs across the market, we decided to add to our state-of-the-art portfolio of equipment by purchasing the Tanabe JD Boxer.”

He added: “This new addition to our gluer capability, which already includes an existing Tanabe machine along with two Andrew and Suter folder-gluers, means that we’ve increased our overall capacity and flexibility as well as response times for our customers. It brings greater design flexibility ensuring our creative team remains at the forefront of innovative solutions to meet our customers needs.”

To ensure clients’ requests for extra capacity for the busy Christmas period could be met, TRM flew the machine direct from Japan.

The installation complements the addition of the Bobst MasterCut die-cutter, TRM’s £3.2m Göpfert Impression seven-colour press and a new complete palletisation line from Ducker and Mosca in the earlier part of this year. TRM continues to develop its site into one of the most flexible and high capability sites in the UK, building on its HD print offering.

HD_Flexo_CertifiedTRM Packaging, the UK’s leading independent corrugated packaging manufacturer, is among the first in the country to achieve the highly sought after ESKO HD Flexo Certification.

ESKO is celebrated for setting the highest standards for HD flexographic printing and the few packaging companies that achieve the certification are leading the way in terms of innovative flexographic printing.

To receive certification, TRM produced five prints on which HD Flexo had been applied and submitted them to ESKO’s Technical Competence Centre in Germany:

Print specialists at ESKO then evaluated the work against its high definition standard using colour measurement and repro quality assessment.

James Jolley, print development manager at TRM, said: “For the quality of our print to be acknowledged as achieving the standards required for such a prestigious accreditation is a considerable honour.

“It is testament to the efforts, dedication to excellence and innovation that drives all our work at TRM.

“The ESKO certification confirms that TRM Impress is a market leader in high quality flexographic printed packaging.”

The technical demands for attaining the required standard include ensuring that appropriate reprographic and plate materials are used to suit the colour coverage and the board that is being printed on.

The certification follows huge success for the packaging company at the 2015 European Flexographic Industry Association’s (EFIA) print awards where it was awarded the most prestigious accolade for print quality in the packaging industry.

The company won the prizes for best in class for ‘Corrugated Post-Print: Coated Line and Screen’ and the ultimate prize, ‘Best in Show’ for a high quality printed pack which it manufactures and prints for leading snacks company, Border Biscuits.

TRM Precision_Packaging Innovations London 2015TRM, the UK’s foremost independent retail ready packaging manufacturer and printer has solved a major FMCG industry bugbear with a £2.5 million packaging manufacturing process.

The company is one of the first corrugated packaging businesses in the UK to offer its clean cutting process, ‘TRM Precision’, enabling the company to produce retail ready packaging free of unsightly nicks and debris left when traditional perforations were torn in store.

A further benefit of TRM Precision is the ability to hold print to die-cut register of only 1mm, introducing print to die cut quality only previously achievable on solid board folding cartons. This means that graphic designers are no longer inhibited by the more traditional 3mm registration that prevented graphics and solid colours butting up on box corners.

This further complements the award winning print quality produced on TRM’s seven colour Göpfert printer.

Developing the technology is part of the business’ overall investment strategy which has seen £8 million invested over the past two years. Trevor Maund, CEO at TRM Packaging said: “Our strategy for investment means we always stay ahead of the curve to provide our customers with corrugated packaging innovation that fulfils their market needs.

“TRM Precision provides added value to our packaging and improves on-shelf image and presence.

“Developing this new technology is the latest example of the business’ focus on being a leader in the corrugated packaging sector and yet another example of how we ensure our customers’ products stand out in store.”

The reverse cutting process which prevents the appearance of nicks involves cutting the board on a flatbed die-cutter using a bespoke forme manufactured by the UK’s leading diemaker Arden Dies.

The corrugate is cut from both sides with a 2mm offset on the interior, which provides a smooth cut line and prevents the appearance of nicks traditionally left by perforations after the pack has been opened.

TRM launched TRM Precision at the recent Packaging Innovations London show alongside its newly developed ‘TRM Profile’ embossing technology.

The embossing process uses specialised tooling, again provided by Arden, during the flatbed die-cutting process to raise areas of the corrugated board. This 3 dimensional relief on the face of the box, provides further product stand out on shelf for brands seeking to differentiate at point of purchase.

TRM Packaging, the UK’s leading independent corrugated packaging manufacturer, has completed the installation of a £2.5 million state-of-the-art BOBST Mastercut die-cutter.

The 1.7m flatbed die-cutter features the latest generation camera controlled technology to achieve market leading print to die-cut registration accuracy of less than 1mm that complements the award winning high quality print being produced by the company’s seven-colour flexographic printer.

Trevor Maund, chief executive at TRM Packaging, said: “This investment means we will provide corrugated packaging with an exceptional on shelf appearance that will boost our customer’s in-store presence.”

The new machine also increases the flat bed die-cut capacity of TRM’s factory by 50% thanks to its automation and exceptional processing speeds, providing the company with the ability to produce even more packs for its customers.

The completed installation of the Mastercut is part of a year-long £4m investment programme to raise the overall capacity of the site by 25%.

Mark Ryan, TRM innovation manager, added: “I am excited by the potential of the new die-cutter which gives me the opportunity to come forward with a new generation of ideas for our customers.”

TRM Packaging has installed a new pallet press line as part of the latest phase in the company’s £8 million investment programme.

The UK’s leading manufacturer and printer of retail ready packaging recently finished the installation of a £1 million investment into a new pallet press line which includes a Dücker palletiser, Mosca pallet strapper and a Haloila Octopus pallet wrapping machine.

Trevor Maund said: “The decision to install the new pallet press line came on the back of the increased demand for high quality printing from our customers.

“The new line offers a range of features such as increased control on wrapping pressures and improves final presentation before shipping to our clients.”

“It is the latest investment, underpinning our push towards securing TRM’s position as the most capable plant in the country in the corrugated industry.”

The new line will increase output of TRM’s plant by a third and improve the flexibility and responsiveness of the business, allowing it to process more packs than was previously possible.

TRM is also upgrading the incumbent palletising line so it can offer the same features as the new equipment.
